Pedro Álvares Cabral Discovers Brazil

Pedro Álvares Cabral is considered as first European to reach Brazil.He was a commander,navigator and an explorer.His expedition is also believed to reach India via Cape of Good Hope second only to Vasco da Gama. A 32 year old Pedro led the fleet from Lisbon. It reached Cape Verde(West African coast) on 22 March.Afterwards they crossed equator on 9 April.They sighted the seaweed on 21 April which assured them that they were near the coast.On 22 April the fleet reached the north east Brazil. Pedro treated the inhabitants kindly and exchanged gifts with them. Nicolau Coelho ,a captain who had experience of Vasco de Gama's Voyage to India was also travelling with Pedro. Later they voyaged to India for spice trade where he was greeted by Zamorin.
